Planned Giving

Planned Giving Info
What is Planned Giving?
Planned Giving can transform the future of the Needham Community Council and ensure that it thrives and continues to impact lives of future generations. By making a planned gift to the Council, your support will last well beyond your lifetime.
Creating your legacy at the Council is NOT just for wealthy philanthropists; anyone can make a planned/legacy gift. Most legacy donors are loyal supporters of the work the Council does to help our Needham neighbors, and wish to see this work continued in the future.
Leaving a legacy to the Council just takes a little planning. It can be as simple as including a bequest to the Council in your will or trust, or naming the Council a beneficiary on your retirement plan, insurance policy, or your Donor Advised Fund.
Types of Legacy Gifts
There are various options for making legacy gifts to the Council. We encourage you to work with your attorney and/or financial advisor to select the approach that is right for you.
The most common options include:
- bequests;
- retirement plan beneficiary designations;
- Donor Adviced Fund beneficiary designations;
- life insurance beneficiary designations
There are additional options you may wish to consider under certain circumstances, including Charitable Trusts that are more complex and are better discussed with your professional advisors.

Donor Advised Funds

Donor Advised Funds
Simplify Your Giving
How it works
You can give back to your community by putting your money where it will do the most good. By establishing a donor advised fund with a community foundation like Fidelity Charitable or Schwab Charitable you can receive a federal income tax charitable deduction at the time you create the fund. Then, you take the time you need to decide which charities to support.
After researching community needs you may recommend grants for any non-profits including the Needham Community Council. The foundation then presents the charities with checks from the fund that was created on your behalf.

Declare a Beneficiary of your DAF
Did you know if you have a Donor Advised fund that outlives you, the remaining balance of your fund can not go back to your children or family? If you have not declared a beneficiary of your fund, the owner of the fund (i.e. Fidelity or Schwab) gets to choose who will receive the balance of your account. Be sure your intentions are known by naming your charity of choice as the beneficiary of your DAF. Typically this can be done directly on your DAF website.
Stock and Fund Transfers

Stock and Fund Transfers
Why a stock or fund transfer?
Make a bigger impact by donating long-term appreciated securities, including stock, bonds, and mutual funds, directly to the Needham Community Council. Compared with donating cash, or selling your appreciated securities and contributing the after-tax proceeds, you may be able to automatically increase your gift and your tax deduction.
How to make a transfer
The Needham Community Council regularly receives gifts in the form of stock or funds. Please contact our office for tracking and account information to complete the transfer. Shortly after completion, they will be sold for current market value and put to work to help our neighbors.
