What is Tech & Tutors?
Tech & Tutors is a community-centered initiative dedicated to promoting digital equity and making technology accessible to all.
In partnership with the Council on Aging, the Tech & Tutors Program was rolled out during the Covid-19 pandemic to help Needham residents stay connected through technology.
The importance of technology to stay connected continues. The Tech & Tutors program provides access to a free tablet (upon qualification) and ongoing hands-on support so residents build confidence with technology, stay connected with family, and explore new learning opportunities.
Hands-On Support
There are many opportunities to learn more about your tablet and technology. Participants can access:
- One-on-One Training. Receive ongoing support for your personal devices with a volunteer tutor.
- Drop-in Support: Resolve your specific questions regarding phones, tablets and computers and other devices. Support sessions are available at the CATH and NHA.
- Tech Teen Sessions: Learn from Needham High School students as they present on tech topics and provide personal support at the CATH Wednesdays and Fridays twice a month during the school year.
- Classes & Lectures: Attend special education sessions covering a wide variety of of relevant technology and trends.
If you need assistance with your phone, email, iPad, tablet, or computer and can’t attend a session at the CATH or the Needham Housing Authority, please contact Karen Zarrow, Tablets & Tutors Program Manager, to schedule a 20-minute one-on-one help session at the Council by:

Apply for A Tablet
Any resident of Needham who does not have access to technology is encouraged to apply. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Android tablets are provided free of charge. To apply for a tablet, begin by completing the Tablet Request Form.
After receipt of the completed form, a staff member will be in touch with you about your tablet needs and interests. Please feel free to contact the program manager – kzarrow@needhamcouncil.org – if you haven’t heard back in a timely manner.
Interested in Becoming a Tutor?
Tech & Tutor volunteers assist with support drop in’s to answer technical questions and help resolve technical issues with smart phones, laptops, etc., and lead classes or lectures. While experience with technology is important, patience and a gentle teaching style is what our constituents most need in a Tech & Tutor volunteer.
If you are interested in volunteering for the Tech & Tutor program, please apply by:
- Submitting a Tech & Tutors – Tutor Application, or
- Contacting Karen Zarrow, Tech and Tutors Program Manager, at kzarrow@needhamcouncil.org or 781-444-2415 x2020.
